ALARMINGLY HIGH MERCURY LEVELS IN SKIATHOS WATER SYSTEM
Skiathos water has been declared unsafe for drinking, after the last chemical analysis was made and the levels of Mercury were 1,4-2 mg/L. The limit for drinking water is 1 mg/L according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
ICONS STOLEN FROM “PANAGIA KARDASI” CHURCH
4 20th century icons were stolen from the church of “Panagia Kardasi”. The icons were stolen sometime between the 14th and 28th of August. The investigation is ongoing.
ESPA WORK APPROVED
Mr Kostas Agorastos announced the construction work that was approved by ESPA. Among the construction work that has been approved by ESPA is the construction of the Skiathos port and airport.
FILMING OF THE MOTION PICTURE “ΤΗΛΕΜΑΧΕΙΑ” HAS BEGUN
The filming of the motion picture “ΤΗΛΕΜΑΧΕΙΑ” starts on the 24th of September on Skiathos island. The film is produced by an independent British production company called Matchbox Productions and the story is loosely based on Homer’s “Odysseia”. The film is a strong drama starring Konstantinos Markoulakis, Patrick Fryer & Eleni Apostolopoulou.
AUGUST ARRIVALS AT A. PAPADIAMANTIS AIRPORT
There was an 11,3% increase in arrivals in the month of August, compared to August 2010.
3rd NATIONAL A. PAPADIAMANTIS CONVENTION
The 3rd A.Papadiamantis convention will be held at the Skiathos Palace Hotel (sponsors of the event) from the 29th of September until the 2nd of October. The event is organized by the Municipality of Skiathos, the Papadiamantian Studies Company and the Ministry of Culture.
HIKING IN SKIATHOS
47 hikers from Irakleion, Crete visited the island on the 23rd of August for a one-week hiking trip. The trip was organized by Ortwin Widmann. Over 600 hikers have visited the island this year and most of them claim they will likely come back to visit.
MAJOR TURNOUT AT LATEST ART EXHIBITS
The painting and ceramics exhibit of Stavros Tsimpliarakis and Giorgos Bezerianios started on Wednesday the 14th of September and will continue until the 22nd of September. So far, the number of visitors has exceeded all expectations. Both locals and tourists have been blown away by the work of the two local artists.
